This is a review of the Jamorama guitar course, now I have to admit I did get a copy of this free from the author when he found out I was setting up a guitar website, but I actually used a more expensive course called Learn & Master Guitar to learn from, so I am in no way biased, to or against this course.

What is it?
Jamorama is a digital course which you can learn guitar from, you get some software to install, then once that is installed it is like your command center where you get hold of and view your lesson. So you download lessons to it (I recommend downloading as many as possible at first so you don’t have to wait when you move between lessons) and then they combine text, images and video to teach you.
The videos are short excerpts designed to take you through what you just read about, so you’ll read about a chord or a concept, then you’ll probably have a diagram to work off, then you click a link and a video opens up and takes you through it and maybe focuses on the fretboard or something so you can see what you need to do.
This course pushes you really fast, you start playing the guitar and jamming along to songs really quickly, that is really good because it gets and keeps you motivated, the other course I am using goes a lot slower so it can be quite boring at the start. There are about 148 lessons so you can go from total beginner through to advanced stuff later on.
Something I really like is you get to play to ‘jam tracks’ really early on, these are quite funky songs that you can listen to, then play a second file which is that song without the guitar, then you play the guitar part!
You also get some software which helps you learn to play, you get metronome software (I had to buy a metronome), software which helps you to identify written music notes, software that helps you train your ears to recognise played notes and even software to help you tune your guitar!
So you get all that for $49.95, the cost of about 1 hour with a guitar tutor.

Pros
- Really funky Jam-along songs
- Gets you playing really fast
- High quality lesson material and videos
- Is great value for money
- The bonus software is actually useful and helpful (a lot of bonuses with most products are junk)
Cons
- Can’t take the lessons to another computer, have to have the software installed on it
- Throws you into playing and doesn’t sit you down and take you through the theory of playing and music as much
- Lessons tend to be quite short
Verdict
This is a great course for the money and it gets you playing really fast to some quite funky songs too so you stay motivated and really feel like you are playing the guitar, instead of just repeating simple note exercises like you would be in other courses.
You do have to learn it from the screen, and most of the time you are reading what you need to learn, so if you prefer to be talked through and watch your lessons, then consider Learn & Master Guitar, but otherwise this is a fantastic course for anyone to learn from.
